JOIN OUR CLASS AS WE BUST OUR EXCUSES

STUDENT WORK

You're supposed to meet your mom at 5:00 and it's now 5:30... and there isn't any reason, or at least not one that you're going to tell. So then.... you have to make an Excuse!
What are excuses?
Why do we give them?
Which ones do we tend to give over and over? Does this tell us something about ourselves?
What happens when we give them?

'Excuse Busters!' will explore all these questions and more. What will you come out knowing at the end of this assignment? More about yourself and a plan to help you get where you're going- without excuses!

                STEP ONE:

  Food For Thought:

How do excuses stop us from reaching our dreams? Read about   it on Jim Bickford's American Dream site:

        Excuses, I'm Too...

 Just For Fun:

Before we get to work, let's spend some time looking at the excuses that we get used to making and hearing.

STEP TWO:

 Busting Those Excuses:

This page will provide teachers with guide for helping students bust their peskiest excuses.

STEP THREE:

Participating classroom will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer activity about what they have learned about excuses. Students in Calgary, Alberta, Canada may find themselves discussing excuses with someone from Boston, Massachusetts.

A month into the project, data will be collected by the lead class, using an online survey tool called Zoomerang.  The survey will determine how successful  students were at maintaining their Excuse Buster goal for one month. The results of the survey will be posted on the Excuse Buster web site by March 15, 2006.

 JOIN OUR CLASS!

This is a short online collaborative project (January- February) for students all around the globe. The focus of our project is to learn about the excuses that get in our way of being successful learners and citizens and then to eliminate them (or bust them!).

Classes will complete the Excuse Buster activity and goal sheet and then will, for a month, concentrate on busting their excuse. A month into the project, the lead class in Calgary , Alberta will email each participating class an online survey polling them on how successful they were at eliminating their excuses. Using the survey data collected they will post the results on the Excuse Buster web page by mid-March, 2006.

Those interested in joining "Excuse Busters!" should contact project coordinator, Brenda Dyck .
