"WE THE CHILDREN…" SPEECH

by Sam

Hello delegate’s of the UN. My name is Sam from Canada, and I’m here to talk about the Children’s Rights Act of 1989. My first point is that children are still being abused by their parents, both mentally and physically in their own homes and even at school by their own peers. This is unacceptable, every child- I think- has the right to a safe place and safety from harm of any form. There must be at least a million children that are either beaten neglected or have they’re self esteem diminished on a regular basis by either their parents or people they interact with on a daily basis .To tell you the truth, the thought sickens me. I cannot imagine what goes through the mind of somebody that beats children. I don’t think much has been done about this issue but I hope something can be done.

My second point about Children’s Rights is that there’s still lack of food, money etc. in third world countries. The U.N has done what they can but the need for help is still there.

Another point about Children’s Rights is that children don’t get the respect they deserve and are very stereotyped. For example:

" kid’s today are too lazy!" or

"that crap he’s listening to is gonna’ turn him into a psycho!"

I think some of that may be true but it doesn’t mean everyone who listens to slipknot or korn is a Satanist. One kid’s opinion doesn’t represent the opinion of every kid. I mean look at segregation we already have! We need to do something about this stereotyping it has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. And if you listen to Brittany Spears you must be wholesome right? Uh… NO! in the words of Lars Fredriksen and the ________ "...Just because I drees like this. Doesnt mean I'm a communist!"

I guess I should move onto the stuff you guys have accomplished. The U.N and the government have greatly reduced the number of child abductions etc. I reiterate I cannot imagine what must go through the mind of some who beats children let alone "steal" them from their own families! I mean, it's disgusting really. But I want to congratulate you guys on a job well done!

Another thing the U.N has helped with is reducing the number of sweatshops by the hundreds! Sweatshops, well they just creep me out! These kids working the whole day for close to nothing for people they don’t even know! Just to feed their families. It’s pretty sad.

In closing I’d like to once again congratulate you on a job well done. And as for the problems you haven’t nipped yet, well every day you’re that much closer to solving them. I’ve learned a lot about Children’s Rights . Thank you for helping me understand them and seeing the world from a different view even if for just a second. There’s a lot of oppression in this world, but as history has proved it can be defeated.

Thank you for your time.
