"Happy is the House

That Shelters a Friend"

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I really had to think over about what does make A Safe Place? I selected these five "friendly" factors.

Someone to stand up for you: I have thought that one makes the argument (one per side) and two stops it. Friends are friends the people you like, work and maybe even live with every day. Even when you’re not with them, they are living, protecting and most of all loving. I think that they protect you, replenish your thoughts and feelings (to others) and make you comfortable because a place that is stressful is not a place for the restful. Friends protect you and make you safe. There or not. I had a friend years ago that I used to be able to call him and talk to him and just chat or play fairly often. However, He lived very far away and soon was a distant memory. Out of this I thought a friend is someone who is close.
Chance of expression/opinion: I have had places such as summer camps or camps that I take through a club. A lot of people know the instructors and they are a group. I find it really hard when I don’t know really well, the people that I am with. I find this takes slightly away from a safe place.
Soft Landings: Everybody makes mistakes and if they don’t have a second chance it is hard for them to work. Without any soft landings everybody is forced into being a perfectionist in their work. Then again nobody is absolutely perfect. Soft landings for the class would eliminate some arguments between teachers and students. No one would be worried about being picked on for missing things on tests or homework. Because the people that do the picking are next themselves. Soft landings will create an environment where people don’t have to worry about mistakes. And When I have to worry all the time, I really don’t feel all that safe.
Basic Needs Met: No individual especially can feel safe without any of their basic needs. (Food, Water, Shelter) Also our class wouldn’t feel safe some kid was coming daily without food to school. I would be thinking that poor kid, why can’t he have stuff to eat. However, when a community together ensures everybody is meeting their basic needs, the poor people are been taken care of. This makes every individual feel more comfortable. I know that I wouldn’t be safe if there were people in my class that couldn’t meet basic needs. Without it all these people are depressed and hungry. With the contribution in our community everybody can be happy and safe that everybody is living comfortably.
No hazardous objects or people: Without these hazardous things everybody will be able to socialize or talk to everybody without knowing that once in a full moon that they just might be talkin’ to that ol’ school bully and you just might get beat up. This, if successful this will create an environment where everybody is comfortable with the people that they are around everyday. Because if you’re not then nobody around you feels safe. No one will be talking and everybody likes to chat with his or her friends but with those people around the _______ it just doesn’t happen. Let us eliminate these people and create a sociable atmosphere.

I think our class could become a safer place if everybody could communicate in a friendly manner with everybody in the class. Teachers, friends, boys, girls, everybody. With this the students in our class would be friendly in communication to everyone. Then no one would be shouting at others during class or just arguing. Another way our class could bee-come a safer environment if everybody was able to work comfortably without being disturbed by other students. Work time is work time where most chatter stops and all work begins. If the class is active then people can socialize. It is hard to work when someone is trying to converse with you. This would make our classroom a Safe Place!

Overall, I think that there are a lot of factors that make up a safe place. All have to be followed to make a place safe.
