Quilts
have proven to be the perfect art form for self expression. Quilt makers
have always used this medium as a means to to express their world and a
vision. Quilts are sometimes used as a way of communicating a powerful
message to a community. The AIDS Memorial Quilt contains over 44,000
colorful panels, all memorializing a life lost to AIDS.
For
the "Quilt of Forgiveness", you will design
a quilt square (28cm by 28 cm) symbolizing the
idea of forgiveness. Using construction paper you will create a symbolic
representation of your image of forgiveness. What images speak of
forgiveness to you? In your experience, what comes to mind when you
consider the idea of forgiveness. You can use
stenciling, collage, pictures, photos, and various textures of paper.
Your quilt square:
Should make
use of color
Have a balanced
design
Contain
symbols that stand for forgiveness for
you
Be neat, with
all edges glued down
Once
all the quilt squares are complete we will join them together on a large
bulletin board as a giant message about forgiveness.
