CAPTURE YOUR IMAGE

WRITING BENCHMARKS

In order to capture images in photographs that will impact those who view them, you will be doing a variety of writing exercises to help clarify your ideas. The checklist for what you will need to complete are as follows:

STEP ONE   Each group will draw a pair of opposing themes (example: war-peace) from a hat during class—by Monday, February 3
STEP TWO   When the group has selected their themes, they will proceed to research the meanings of the words. This can be done using a variety of dictionaries. Combine your definitions into a summary definition for each opposite theme word—This summary must be clearly understood by anyone reading it and must be well-detailed. Monday, February 3
STEP THREE Once the definitions have been obtained, the group will use a thesaurus to make a list of different synonyms for each of the words—find a minimum of five synonyms for each word-- Monday, February 3.
STEP FOUR   Each group will then select a minimum of 5 existing images from the Internet that epitomize the meanings of each of the opposing themes—that means a total of 10 images per group, minimum.
STEP FIVE    Once the photos have been selected and "captured"—copy each onto a Word document. EACH group member must summarize, in 2-3 sentences per photo, why they believe that those photos have captured the meaning of their themes.
